Freemasons and the Communities in which they Live
We want the community at large to see that Freemasonry is very much part of the 21st Century and continuing to provide the care and support which it has done for centuries ~ caring for and thinking about others.
Freemasonry has been involved in charitable activities and social projects from its very early beginnings and not only for the benefit of its own members. Of course, it has provided support for countless widows and orphans of Freemasons, but it has also provided support for all kinds of needs in the wider community.
In the last few years alone Freemasons under the United Grand Lodge of England, their families and friends, have raised more than £100 million for a wide range of projects in the wider community.
It should be noted that, unlike nearly every other charity, this is achieved without having to approach the public at large – you will not see a Freemason shaking a collection tin for any Masonic charity !! Whilst many projects are funded by Freemasonry alone, funds are now raised by Freemasonry matching the funds raised by and supplied from other sources.
FREEMASONS IN NORTHUMBERLAND ARE REMINDED OF THEIR MASONIC OBLIGATIONS AND ARE ASKED TO CONTINUE TO PLAY THE IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE COMMUNITY THAT THEY HAVE ALWAYS DONE, HAVING CONCERN FOR ALL THOSE WHO ARE LESS FORTUNATE THAN OURSELVES.
